The City of Leicester College’s curriculum provides exceptional opportunities and can offer one of the widest and most varied choices of any school in Leicester. Although it is compulsory that students follow some ‘core’ subjects, we provide many alternative, personalised pathways for the curriculum that they choose.
In order to enable students to continue to access a broad and balanced curriculum, and to achieve their potential in those subjects, we have created a Year 9 transitional year where students begin their journey into KS4, having begun the process of selecting their option choices in Year 8.
Below are the current Year 9 courses. Click on the subject links for information on the course description and awarding bodies.
The core subjects are part of the curriculum which all Year 9 students must follow:
In Year 9 students will study four option subjects:
Food Preparation & Nutrition
Health & Social Care
Modern Foreign Languages
Students at The City of Leicester College are offered the possibility to take a GCSE and/or A level in a language they can speak/read/write and listen confidently.
Students are allowed to be entered for their Community Language exam from Year 11 onwards (Students are entered for the Higher tier only).
Over the past few years we have had a number of successful students achieving a GCSE and/or A level in the following languages: Gujarati, Italian, Panjabi, Greek, Arabic and Urdu.
