Our year 6 transition team work closely with local primary schools to ensure that the transition process is a positive and exciting experience for both students and parents.

We ensure that all students’ needs are met from the start of their induction process into year 7, and that the whole transition process is as smooth and supportive as possible.

Members of the Transition Team visit local primary schools to help put students at ease about the transition process, inform students about what life will be like at secondary school, answer any questions anxious students might raise, and also speak directly to year 6 teachers.

The SENCo speaks directly with Year 6 teachers, and parents, about the needs of students with Special Educational needs.

We hold an annual open evening, inviting all year 6 students and parents from the community to visit the college, meet key members of staff, and explore the building, facilities and curriculum areas.

In the summer term, we have 2 transition days, where Year 6 students will be at The City of Leicester College, meeting new friends and familiarising themselves with their form group, Form Tutor, routines and classrooms.

There are also extra transition mornings where SEN students are invited to meet the Teaching Assistants, the SENCo and other key members of the Inclusion Team. Similarly, our team of Mentors run an event for students highlighted as needing further support during the transition process.

All Year 7 students take part in a week long induction process, where they spend time with their form groups getting to know one another and the surroundings before being slowly integrated into a full time timetable. Part of this induction process is a visit to Bradgate Park with the year group.

Our Mentors run a Nurture Group to help settle vulnerable year 7 students into secondary school life who might find this process somewhat challenging.

As a parent/carer of a Year 6 student, you should now know you have been successful in obtaining a place at The City of Leicester College.

We have sent to you a welcome letter including a Contacts Form and SIMS Parent Form. If you have already completed and returned this paperwork, thank you. If you still need to complete, could you return it promptly to ensure our database is correct and up to date for when your child starts with us.

Induction Visit:

Our full two-day induction will take place on Tuesday 2nd July and Wednesday 3rd July 2019. Your child will spend both days from 9.00 – 15.00 with us and will be introduced to their new tutor and experience what a school day is like at TCOLC. This will involve them attending some specifically planned lessons whilst also making the most of getting to know their new classmates. To further support them in this transition, our ‘Happy to Help’ students will be with them throughout both days.

Year 6 Parent/Tutor Meeting:

Parents will be invited to make a 15 minute appointment (using our online Parents Evening System, accessed via our website) to meet their child’s Form Tutor and receive more information on The City of Leicester College on Wednesday 3rd July 2019. If you have any problems accessing our Parents Evening System, please contact Mel or Rachel on 0116 241 3984

Further details will be sent to you via letter nearer the date.

  • Please note in order to access SIMS Parent, you must have Parental Responsibility, a valid email address and an existing account such as Hotmail, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter or Office 365
