Welcome to The City of Leicester College

As a member of staff within our college community I want to begin by thanking you for being part of this vibrant and popular 11–19 College and for bringing the knowledge, skills, experience and enthusiasm which will support our students learning.

Our ‘motto’ Be Happy, Be Ambitious, Make a Difference reflects our aim to not only develop young people but is also aimed at ensuring staff enjoy working within our College environment society. It challenges you to reflect on your work and the key role you will play in helping our young people to flourish now and develop essential lifelong skills and character to ensure a bright future.

Our ethos is one that nurtures individual talent, respects all faith and non-faith beliefs and celebrates our wonderful diversity. Student success is numerous and varied; from young sports men and women performing at national level, to academic brilliance gaining places at the Oxbridge Universities. Students excel in the arts, which we are passionate about and see as essential to developing the whole person. Your role in all of this is central.

We have made a number of innovative appointments to support teaching and learning and we have embraced the remodelling agenda in an attempt to improve the quality of what we do.  The college enjoys excellent support from a full range of over 50 administrative and support staff.  One of our strengths is the energy and commitment that exists in our collaborative teams: all staff are able to contribute to the growth of their year teams, faculty teams or to cross curricular initiatives in whatever way they wish.  Contributions are made by many staff to extra-curricular and enrichment activities and there are voluntary task groups that look into whole school developments.  The extent of the wide range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities and achievements of the students can be seen in the extensive termly newsletter.

In addition to a core, regular staff professional development programme, we participate fully in the national PIXL programme and we run bespoke programmes e.g. for NQTs and new teachers, individual support and mentoring programmes, collaborative planning sessions. We have 23 trained coaches on the staff who are available for one to one coaching. We also run a Teaching and Learning showcase session once a month where staff share good and developing practice and our staff regularly contribute to national and international Teaching and Learning conferences. We are running our own Teaching and Learning conference in June 2016.

There is a commitment to supporting staff’s health and well-being and this is rewarded by an atmosphere that is friendly, open, honest and optimistic.

I am delighted that you are working with our students and know that your contribution to their lives and this college community will be immense.
